The Foothills Art Club welcomes all visual fine art artists (two-dimensional artwork). Every level, from beginner to the more knowledgeable and experienced, is invited to use the medium of choice – pencil, oil, watercolour, acrylic, mixed media or pastel. Members are encouraged to share their knowledge with the other artists, to ask for advice from each other, and to participate in Club activities.
Foothills Art Club holds a spring and a fall Art Show and Sale, with all members being eligible to take part. We have scheduled ‘open-studios’ or ‘paintouts’ at the Beaupre Hall, west of Cochrane, as well as outside ‘plein-air’ painting sessions during the summer. We have guest presentations and demonstrations by members throughout the year, in addition to weekend workshops led by professional instructors. At least once a month we have a ‘theme night’ when member(s) will share a special technique or resource and also a ‘critique corner’ night for members to bring their work for suggestions or feedback.
This year our first regular Wednesday evening meeting will be September 8, 2010. We meet weekly at St. Andrews United Church from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Drop in as your schedule allows. All demonstrations begin at 7:00 p.m. with participation voluntary. A Christmas Social is scheduled for December 8, ending the year. Our fee for the year is $120, which is non-refundable and will not be pro-rated. The fee covers membership from September 1st to August 31st.
In the New Year, we will start on January 5, 2011 and meet every Wednesday until May 11, and then enjoy a social event and paintout on May 14/15 at Beaupre Hall. We do not meet during June, July and August but take part individually in numerous events in the community. Refer to our website calendar for the weekly schedule. As well, reminders will be sent by e-mail as needed (all correspondence is by e-mail).
